Replacement Key

Hi Jimbob,

I presume that the car is safely off the road or atleast out of harms way. Have a look at your log book and get the VIN number of the vehicle. Give this number to the local dealer who should be able to check on the MB dbase for numbers etc. Not too sure how far back some of the data goes!

To get a key you need to visit the dealer in person and show them the Log book (V5) prooof of ownership and an additional piece of identification (passport will do). Then they sould order the key for you from MB Germany. Usually takes a week or so depending and you need to collect it from the dealer personally unless you have specified another person who is authorized to collect the key for you.

This way you will not damage the car, yet you can always call Mobilo (MB's recovery service) and explain your predicament (They will probably be able to open the car). I imagine that the only thing that you then need to worry about is how to secure the car again. I am not sure you can start the vehicle without tugging on wires.

Hope this helps,

Andres

Other than whats already mentioned, u recently bought the car? If so the previous keeper might have spares? Originally these cars came with up to 5 original keys - 1 round and 4 square.

Also, there are guys in the yellow pages that come out and make a key to fit the lock. I lost a key to a mazda i had a couple of years ago in alton towers, they came out (via RAC) and it cost me seventy quid and i had a new key. You will find probably under locksmiths in yellow pages. If not in there, then the AA and RAC have their own reccommended ones.

But be aware, you should get a replacement from MB in long term. If you use these made up keys for long, they will wreck the lock mechanisms...

Thanks

Jay
