Hello all, I'm new here and looking for help. My soon to be devorced wife has lost the only key we have for my 1998 E200. It has or should i say had the large key with the sliding key bit. I need to know what i have to do to get this problem sorted.. thanks Neil:(

Hello Niel, take the logbook and some ID to your MB dealer and they will get you a replacement, they cost around £150

Unfortunately there is no satisfactory answer to this on.

As Malcolm says, the dealer is the only place to get a new key, takes about four working days and has to be ordered specifically for the vehicle. Log book, and Photo ID required and in some dealers a Utility Bill required.

Programming is not a problem and the dealer will do that while you wait, if not follow the simple instructions in your hand book.

How do you get in to move it? I don't think you can until you get a key. Even breaking a window will set off the alarm, you will not be able to turn the wheels, and will not be able to get it out of gear if it is an auto.

The issue i have, is that my dealer has a letter from head office stating that certain parts cannot be sold to joe public unless the vehicle is on site, i tried to purchase a gear shift for an s class, they wouldn't supply to either myself or the customer unless the car was on site. problem solved now, :)

I've just ordered a new key here in the UK, price is actually similar to what you've paid which has surprised me!!!

However, I was told it will take 10 (TEN!?) working days. Just gotta hope my key lasts out till next Friday!
