I had the engine coolant message pop up today. I am better of using recommended MB coolant rather than off the shelf variety?

Thanks
Andy

You need to match what you have as mixing certain varieties causes issues.

I‘d be concerned as to why you’ve got a low coolant warning as it should use any, so where has it gone to…?

Ah ok, maybe the warning was an error? I drove this morning should I park up and have a look at the level when the engine is cold? Not had this before? It only popped up after about 30 seconds from leaving home, I had seen some say it comes on when the ignition was turned on.

It's only been serviced either by MB or a MB specialist, would they use a specific brand. It looks blue

I've taken two pics. Not sure what the white marks are? But I think the level is low.

Colour isn't necessarily a distinction as to what it is unfortunately. You do need to check the level when cold.

OK thanks, I'll leave it on the flat until morning.
I'll need to top up anyway, unless I do a chemical analysis, how can i match what is already in there?

How much does it need? If more than a mug full I'd just use plain water ( .... as I did just very recently). Obviously if you need to top it up again you need to find out where it's loosing coolant.

If MB have serviced it then it should have G48 (available from Halfords).

The level should be around half way to allow for thermal expansion.

Thanks for the advice all, I'll get some today.
I'll keep an eye on the levels.
At least I've never had to top up the oil.

Personally I would be more concerned with the creamy/milky looking substance in the coolant as well as around the filler......???

I think that is just some old stains rather than that milky stuff I've seen in older cars.

Let's hope so.
But I wasn't referring to the white dried stains on the Expansion Tank, (which obviously emanated from somewhere), there's some around the inside of the filler, as well as some clinging to the Fill Marker inside the Tank....
But if you're convinced it means nothing, that's what counts.

I'm not convinced by anything. I'll have another look, if it's that then I'll worry.

Inconsequential as they're outside the sealing area (inner ring and brass ring). I think the piece circled inside is a white nylon float on the level sensor.

Inside at the sensor level that's looking totally normal to me.

Thats nothing to be concerned about.

Only concern is how much has been lost at this stage. Could be during your recent service that now its burped a bit more and needs a little top up.

Very odd, since that first warning this morning the warning has not appeared. I've picked up some G48 so will top up tomorrow. I don't think it will require much.

Thanks all.
