Hi all

Driving to work this morning my 1997 w210 e class pop up a 'oil level at minimum' warning light. Does anyone recommend a certain type of oil? Also how much should I put in?

Many thanks
Pete.

Just incase it is an erroneous message, see what happens on the way home.

It will probably require a top up, check the oil using the manual method (dipstick) then top up as required. I would top up with the same make and type of oil as you are using. De[pending upon who did the last service it should be stamped in the service booklet.
One benefit from topping the oil up in a 210 is that the ASSYST service counter adds some miles until the next service

Will do, if I do need to top up how much should i put in? The oil comes in 1 litre or 4.5 litre bottles.

From the Low to High mark on the dipstick, it should be around 2 litres. Obviously, if it is below the low mark you'll need to add more than that.

usually 1 litler is difference between max and min mark.
i think its always useful to have a gallon of oil in the garage for topping purposes.

Just a word of warning.

Don't overfill the engine with oil. This is very easily done as the level should be checked hot. I would advise you not to put any more than half a litre in at a time as the engine overfill warning will keep coming up on the dash at the slightest overfill.

This can be very irritating and its not easy to remove excess oil.
