I've recently purchased a 1992 SL500 (LHD) which has 18" AMG split rims. Due to the larger wheel the car position is quite lofty and i'd like to know what springs owners have fitted to reduce the ride height (approx 30-40mm) and obtain more controlled handling. I was contemplating either Eibach or H&R. Perhaps someone can share their experience.

The car is equipped with ADS and electronic ride height control.

I have eibachs on my 190E and although they are more expensive than other springs, they are the best.
I don't know anyone who has tried them on an SL but you could try asking the nice folk over at www.bnzsport.com as they are more into modding than the equally nice folk here :)

Was there a sportline option for the 500SL? If so you can fit sportline springs with minimum height spring caps. It won't work very well without the appropriate roll bars and dampers though. I did the conversion on my 300CE as half the components were u/s anyway at 11 years old and sportline components are no more expensive. The result is very good, much less roll, better turn in etc. But if I did it again I would fit Koni dampers to get more damping at the front than the unajustable bilsteins provide.
