Hey people,

Im looking at lowering my c32 but am not sure which springs to opt for. I know that HR do 40mm lowering sets and they supply merc/amg but the back of the car doesn't need lowering that much but the front does!

Anyone got any experience in this field and could you shed some light on the issue?

The first time I lowered a car, I found out that UK roads are not very flat.

Sorry to rain on your parade..BUT I've just had a young lady who bought a peugeot 206 some 6months ago, paid £1700 to have it insured, had an accident, not her fault, and now her insurance comapny (AXA) are refusing to pay out, because they say her car has been modified ie lowered, and she didnt inform them, I spoke to one of the claims investigators and he stated that had they known the car had been lowered they wouldnt have insured it...SO check with your insurance company before fitting lowering springs, or carrying out any mods.. They have offered to reimburse her £1700, and want the policy returned..

Yes I remember the days of the mini,,after any accident the insurance assessors were there taking the car down and measuring everything, good point Xtractofan

Yea i had the same experience. But it depends on who you insured with etc, some are more problematic than others

Try Eibach, They are 35mm lowering and very well known brand. I think they are stronger springs too and lower the car more evenly

Thanks folks....ive seen the thread several other places it wasnt intended for..so no need to point it out!

I had heard Bilstein aren't too harsh either so it might be the route to take.
What is it with loads of front wheel clearance but not much rear clearance, it just seems a bit strange.

front does tend to stay a lil higher than rear on CLK's. Honestly speaking Eibach and H&R are better brands but if you want the slightly cheaper option you could also go for Bilstien or Pi springs as they all very good brands only some are better than others in ride quality and comfort

Becareful with some of the cheaper springs on offer. I have seen the nose of Mercedes on the ground and the coils banana shaped.

So it'll be eibach or H&R, i'll make some enquiries into spring rates etc, but completely agree no point in skimping on a few quid for performance parts. Got set of K&N's on order too :D

Following on from the insurance issues i checked with my insurer today (elephant) and lowering car up to 50mm puts on about £80 in my case so not a bargain but not too bad for upgrading the looks and handling!

£80 extra is not bad at all on insurance. Make sure you are careful in who you go to for fitting the suspension. I cannot stress enough on how important it is to get it right.

Good luck and show us some pics of before and after

Eibachs are a no go...apparently they dont do springs that fit the spring seat that is on the amg dampers DOH!!

So looks like it will be H&R but just waiting for a reply from them...YAWN!
Thanks for advice all will do before and after pics for sure.

Thanks

Russ

H&R are very strong brand and should work well. They are not as comfortable as Eibach but should do good job.

I will say it again, make sure you choose the right mechanic
