I have been considering having my 1996 C200 W202 automatic converted to run on LPG. The converter I plan to use will fit the OMVL kit, the car will then start on petrol and then automatically switch to lpg. Whilst my car does not qualify for the grant (too old), I believe I can recoup the cost in about a year or so at the 20k+ per year that I do.
The recent enquiry about lpg on a different model has worried me, should I have any concerns about having this conversion done to my C200?.

I thought about converting on of my cars to LPG but the main thing that put me off is that most Insurance companys either wanted a much higher premium or would'nt even consider cover. Also, I've heard that the channel tunnel won't allow LPG coverted cars on.

Not sure if I commented on the earlier enquiry. But have a fair bit of experience with LPG as I have done over 120k on LPG with a Galant 2.5V6 I had converted in Jan 2001.

I have no technical experience or skills so had the car converted by a garage and once a few gremlins were sorted in the first three weeks, it has been trouble free.

The Galant starts on petrol and I then blip the throttle, the gas cuts in once the engine revs go over 2000rpm. I have had no trouble insuring the car with no extra charges levied - a lot of online insurance companies have systems where you can see the impact on your premium of things like conversions (classed as a modification).

I have never taken the car abroad but have been told you cannot take it through the tunnel. Sadly your car would registered as petrol so you cannot avoid congestion charging or benefit from some of the tax breaks for cars that give out lower pollution levels.
