Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of converting a vehicle to run LPG and petrol.
What are the effects on engine performance and reliability etc.
Are mercedes engines suitable for conversion?
If anyone has owned a converted mercedes, please drop me a line
Thanks

I had my 1995 Audi A6 estate converted to LPG 4 years ago and drove it for 2 years. My wife now has the A6. It has reached 190k without any problems. No noticable change in performance, but you only get about 75 to 80% of the petrol mpg.
If you are a high mileage driver, lpg at 30 ppl can't be beaten. I drive about 40k each year. The cost of conversion, for a closed loop system (on a car with a cat) was about £1400. I broke even after 25k.
On the A6, I had the lpg tank (70l, the largest that would fit) installed in the spare wheel space, under the floor (and got a space saver). I've travelled all over the UK and never had any problems getting lpg. The only downside is that you can't travel to Europe through the Channel Tunnel.

I now have an E220 CDI estate.
