end of last year purchased my first mercedes S320cdi 2002 - full service history 100k. i do about 32k a year, 22k motorway and 10k general miles.
i don't want to retain the service history as i never sell my cars on. but i do want to maintain my car correctly. what oil's should i use in my engine, gearbox and diff, based on my miles on the car and usage . any comments guys.

Hi Malcolm, (my, there are a lot of Malcoms on this forum!)

I too have a E320CDI (2001) with 100k on the clock and have a similar intent to you. I am currently using Castrol fully synthetic oil in the engine (change interval anticipated at 10k/12mths) and am still considering the position with the gearbox and final drive.
The auto gear box is not scheduled for any sort of oil change and I can't find any info on the WIS regarding a fluid change.
Have you got an LSD in the diff? if so then that will settle which oil to use. However, normally the diff can be left alone, unless you really want to change it in which case use Mobil 75W/90 in an ordinary diff and whatever MB specified for the LSD.

MB don't recommend gearbox oil changes, but owners do. Sealed for life seems to mean a life of around 100-150k so new gbox oil and filters are a good preventative maintenance step IMO.
For the engine, a good synthetic such as Mobil1 or Magnatec GTD should do the trick. The assyst is clever enough to trust on the service intervals. It checks the oil condition so will let you know when it needs changing.
