Has anyone else experienced these symptoms? Every once in a while, it could be every day, once a week or even less frequently, usually on opening the throttle again after slowing, but it has also happened when cruising on a steady throttle, the engine on my '95 E320 (W124) dies just for a split second and then is back to normal for the rest of the journey. Its almost like a rather rough auto gear change. So far I've had the engine wiring harness repaired where the low tension wires go into the spark plug chamber and where the insulation had broken down - the non-franchised mercedes specialist who did the work doubted that the harness was faulty anywhere else. I've tried another air mass sensor with the same result. I've also fitted another over-voltage protection relay, again the fault persists. It's so intermittent no fault is ever recorded on the car's computer. All suggestions gratefully received!

Addendum

I should have added that the engine always starts instantly hot or cold, that the problem only occurs after the car has travelled a few miles, ie it's warmed up a bit. It has never actually stalled or given any trouble with idling as so many other people report, and performance has always been very consistent. Ambient temperature seems to make no difference. Strange thing is that I've never known the problem to occur more than once in any particular journey, regardless of distance travelled.
