I think this is a relatively common issue due to age and deteriorating plastic. Very occasionally they come up on ebay. Meantime possibly a temporary fix is the only answer until you find some.

Being the cold air intake personally if had such a problem i would source large black shrink fit tubing, cut to size and apply a hair dryer to shrink.
I would apply two cut lengths on both sides to balance. one shrink ten shrink a second over the first sleeve. In time dust will attach and will not be noticeable.

Yes, that would do the job nicely.

its the mass of leaves in the air filter housing that's a bigger worry

Are there no performance style tubes made for this?

The plastics on such parts are just woeful and. To be honest, I’d take that to a fabricators and see if they can replicate that in metal.

I guess Mercedes as all manufactures tend to use corrugated plastic to gain flexibility and low cost. My suggestion of shrink fit was based on retaining flexibility. Raychem was a supplier used by the aircraft industry during my work days. I have used shrink fit on numerous 2 & 4 wheel vehicles Air pipe repair & cable covering. Cover just the corrugated section

Hi Malcolm. Thanks for your suggestion. Do you still have this shrink fits and how far are you from East London to do the job in your garage.
I have seen on the Mercedes forums in USA someone got them cold air intake pipes from V6 E350 and use them on V8 E550. Took them apart and use first bit from V8 E550 and rest of them from the V6 E350. Uploaded the photos for everybody that might have the same problem.
Thanks Malcolm .

Hi Harry.
Thanks for the info. I couldn’t find a new cold air intake pipes so ordered heat shrink to put over the damaged plastic.
I noticed you have the same car. Do you have a TV in yours. I have a DVD and reverse camera.
Do i need to add just a TV ariel to be able to receive the channels? And watch YouTube?
For the moment I listen YouTube from my phone by the Bluetooth in the car but I got no picture on the monitor in the car?
Thanks mate.
Appreciated.

Not at all, anytime. You'll always get good advice from members here and normally something will meet the fix. Yes I have the same car, coming up for 7 years in a week or two. I don't have TV, I recall it needs a TV tuner fitting and nowadays it would need to be a digital tuner. Command on line, a supporter of this forum could help but I'd think it'd be pricey. Bluetooth won't transmit a picture to the COMAND unit only sound, so you can hear youtube through the car, just not see it! If you fit the heat shrink, post back on success and stick around if you can, as our car is a rare one with this engine and only a handful of owners in the UK.

Hi all.
I decided not to use the heat shrink on the end due to the fact that nearly half of the both end plastics wasn't there anymore -photos attached.
Instead removed the old end plastics and used thicker radiator hose pipe with strong clips.
I hope this is going to help all mercedes owners in this situation!!!

Thanks for the post. How do you take the OEM Intake Pipes apart in order to make up the new parts? I am struggling to take my pipes apart and dont want to make my situation worse than it already is.

TIA

Hi Mercfan93.
Can you post a photo of your engine bay and cold air intake pipes to see if we are on the same page mate?
Thanks

Hi Everyone,

Hope that you are well. I managed to obtain a new set of the V6 M272 Intake Pipes. The back parts that goes into the airbox are the same on both engine models. They already became brittle and broke off on my engine intake pipes. I loosened the clips and glue to pull out the old collars. I then had to basically destroy the V6 intake pipes in order to get the back parts out intact. They fit perfectly into my intake pipes with a tight fit. So no risk of pulling out or any air leaks.

I'll add that I am in South Africa so our aftermarket parts availability for Mercedes is extremely limited. I paid R1200 in total for both intake pipes while the Spectre Kit would have cost R1600 to do one side only.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Pic shows the new V6 parts fitted onto the V8 intake pipes.
