The MAF gives a lot of concern, how many times do we hear " I had a new MAF and the fault codes show it to be faulty again".
Modern injection systems are complex, mix that with modern elecrics, and you have a minefield to wade through.
Why does the MAF come up with a fault code, OK lets say that your ignition system is in a poor state and the car hardly runs, you have the idle circuitry and the running circuitry. As your spark may be weak the other parts try and compensate ie air flow (MAF) so now you have two fault codes recorded,
ignition and MAF, if the idle control tries to compensate as well you will end up with 3 fault codes being recorded. Its a matter of normally keeping the basic running gear in good order. In this case once the ignition is fixed and the fault codes cleared the MAF would no longer shown up as faulty.
I used the ignition as an example only.
