Having recently bought a new air hose assembly (includes two Mafs) from a Stealership after my attempts to replace the two Mafs with non Bosch did not work for the S tank
with the aim to save ££.
I thought rather than buy a new Maf for the SL as it functions OK presently unlike the S tank. I decided to take the Maf assembly off the car and spray liberally (1/2 can) of crc maf cleaner, let it dry then re install.
When i fitted the new Maf assembly on the S tank, fuel economy and pick up improved and CEL went.
When i cleaned the Maf on the SL with Cleaner, fuel economy and pick up improved.
So when your car has a air filter change you may wish to clean the maf.
My Maf experiences this year.
