Firstly i would like to thank you all for your help with my missfire problem on my 2000 clk 230k. I had a diagnostic done and was advised it was probably the MAF. Bought one aftermarket for around £50 inc P&P.

One question thought the tech at Merc dealer said it would take a few miles/minutes for the MAF to work as the ECU would have to readjust to the new readings it is being sent. When i first changed the MAF the car ran worse but after about 30 miles it seems back to normal, but the fuel consumtion seems quite poor is this normal or was the tech blowing smoke you know where.

Thanks Biglee.

You ask a hard one, when any fuel related part start to fail, other parts try to compensate and deviate from their stored setting, If this was done in the MB workshop any fault codes would be cleared and reset. With you just driving the car it will for the best part adjust itself, just the same as it did when the MAF failed.

the tech said it would take time and miles to adjust back to optimum performance is this right? and can anyone let me know how long this should take?

I am delighted with the performance which got gradually better over the 30 miles but cant really tell about the consumption until i take it for a longer run.

give it time. Not necessarily because the car has any more adjustment to make but because things like MPG tend to vary week by week anyway. (A friend was complaining that his dropped last week, whilst mine improved slightly - go figure!). It may also be that it was running a bit weak, so mpg may fall a bit too.
I had a sensor fault on my Granada once, ran like a dog but it was really econonmical!
