Help please

last week my C220 - 2002 - 100000 m has started to lose power, it can't go over 2500, very slow acc. In the morning when i start engine everything is fine but if i stop the car for an hour or more it shows a lack of power. The next day same thing, it runs fine but later loses power. I tested it for next three days and the same thing happend. I took car to the MB garage and they found MAF problem and gearbox control unit problem. I ordered the MAF to be replaced for £59, but reading the other threads i have found that a MAF can be cleaned. My first Q is it worth while to clean the MAF or is better to replace it? But my main worry is the gearbox control unit problem because in the garage they told me that replacing the gearbox control unit will cost me about £900. Is it possible that the gearbox control unit is not faulty and replacing only the MAF will solve my problems?:?:
Thank you!

When the MAS is faulty, random codes do get thrown up. Follow the cleaning thread, should be OK, cleaning is also part of the MB service program.Gearboxes do not loose power when warm.

I replaced my MAF ( I tried cleaning it, it was better, but no coconut!) and, apart from power delivery back as it should be, my auto changes improved considerably. It took a day or so of driving to improve fully, but the car now drives very smoothly throughout.

I would get the MAF changed for that price, then see how it goes. You will probably find all is well and nothing needs tpo be done to the box.
