Can the MAF affect the heaters inside the car or have I just got another problem :(? I have found out through my centre vents when I put air con on, it blows cold, and through each vent at either side of car is really hot! This was working perfect before I started having problems with the car stalling, running rough, cutting out, and being really slow (like 20mph up a hill). I'm pretty sure it's the MAF looking though previous posts here, but can it effect my heater too?

Sorry I am female! :p

Only the centre vents are blowing cold when set to air con. Others are blowing hot air. Someone also suggested this could be a temp sensor problem, or vacuum?

From memory (admittedly a W123) the centre vents are fresh air only and never get hot, so the problem is not the centre vents but the fact that the heater won't turn off. A very common problem.

In almost all cases it's the duovalve. Do a search, there is a lot of diagnostic info including a strip down photo guide provided by Blobcat. It could be a temp sensor but a test of the voltages on the control wires to the duovalve will show that.

Thanks for your help. She's been sent to the garage and plugged in to see what has to be done. If it's the MAF problem too, I've been quoted for the part alone at £294 + Labour + VAT. To me that seems a bit pricey considering they're on ebay for £70. Any opinions on that?

Obviously ebay is knocked down items, and probably off the back of a lorry

The mechanic has now told me it's a coil not the MAF? I have no idea what that is...

It's petrol btw. My friend informed me that Mercedes petrol engines don't have a coil, only ignition one, that correct? :S

the 6 cyl M103 engine

has three coil packs, each one doing two cylinders. I know, as I just replaced all three on my C280 at a cost of approx £70, all in, including labour. The parts can be had from GSF for just under £60. (all of them, not each).

Its not a complex or lengthy job, and if you have anyone diy or spanner-brained in the house, could be done at home probably.

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad it wasn't the MAF as expected which I was quoted £300 for the part alone. £44 i've been quoted + fitting for the coil, which I hope will sort out the problems it's been having..

I think I might start doing my own DIY car jobs, the simple ones anyway. :)

See how it goes tomorrow, hopefully all will be sorted as I pick her up :)

Coils for your car are approx £45 each and there are three.

IS your car with a small Merc specialist garage ??? - it needs to be.

Regards
