I know there are numerous other posts on the subject but after trawling through a few and not finding what I was looking for I had to ask. So apologies in advance for the repetition....
My w202 has just been diagnosed as needing a new MAF sensor and my question is is it easy to DIY? If so does anyone have any instructions? My local indy has quoted me £220 fitted which is reasonable enough but I would like it done asap and I reckon I could save myself £70...

Also does anyone know what the part number is? Malcolm?

Thanks

It couldn't be easier; you just unclip each end of the intake tubing and disconnect the plug.

Thanks. Excuse my ignorance though, I don't know where it's located..... Also my local Bosch Service centre have quoted £45 fitting but I haven't got a price on the part yet. Is it worth getting them to do it?

Thanks Malcolm. I am assuming that mine is the immobiliser version in which case I can see a price of £12 for that part no on the web....... Surely I am looking at the wrong thing!!!!!! Help.

Thanks Malcolm. Brilliant.

So armed with this useful information should I attempt a replacement myself?

Is it as simple as just removing old and replacing and all should be well?

My indy (who I have absolutely no reason to doubt) wants the car from cold and cost is £220. (He recently did £600 of work that MB were going to charge £2500 for so I am happy that he is fair). Is there something additional I am missing????

i have just changed the maf on my car, 97. e300 td. your maf looks very similar from malcolm's diags. it takes ten minutes, just two screws (star drive type)and remove and replug the electrical plug. my original maf was a bosch £125, the one i fitted was recommended by my inde, piersburg from stutguard at £85. your inde looks a bit pricy but i am not sure how much your maf costs, but cannot see why it should be more than £100? for me the inde only gets involved if you fit the maf and you have engine problems. you also need to have confidence in the person who diagnosed the replacement of the maf ? herbiemercman.

Thanks herbiemercman.

I am fairly confident that it's a maf fault.

I haven't found a supplier yet though.

Does anything need to be reset computer wise on fitting of a new one. Someone suggested disconnecting the battery for 30 mins to delete any saved settings.... does this have any other implications?

Even if one just buus the inserts, a set of small star security drives cost under £10, you cannot really do it wrong. We will have you changing the brake pads next :-D

Best price I can get is £200 so my indie's price of £220 fitted seems reasonable enough..... (MB £272 just for the part by the way)

The bosch price for the complete thing is £147, for the insert only the price drops to £50
