Major Service

I have just purchased a 1987 300te, the history of the past few years is a little dubious to say the least. I therefore have decided to have a major service carried out and have been quoted £450 by an independant specialist. Does this sound resonable? The estimated milage is around 130,000 as the dash wash replaced by Alan Day at 110,000 and that was 2 years ago. Many thanks for any advice.

What have they quoted for?, a major service is a bit vague. At that price I would suspect it is more than filters and plugs!

Hi Tom,

I can only assume the service your specialist is quoting for is the service which should be carried out at 144,000 miles or every 36k, this service includes the oil and filters changed in all major components. If you have a look at my website you will find there under service, a list of service prices for your vehicle. The largest service would cost you £250.00plus vat, plus brakes. All service parts and labour are included in this price.

PS,

I do find that the prices down south are grossly inflated compared to the prices in the midlands. Why? I am not sure.

Maybe its some thing to do with the great South\North division.?!?!?!? Anyway I think it would be worth a trip up. Check my referals under "tired of high dealer costs"

Thanks for the replies, as I am aware the service will consist of changing oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid and coolant. Also filters, including fuel. The car will also be tuned on sun analyser and have bearings greased. Does this still sound excessive?

Hi Tom,

The thing is, if you look in the service booklet. Brake fluid, antifreeze change. (I am not so sure about the bearings ie which bearings)etc. Are all replaced at specific intervals. Eg, we would not quote for that sort of work with out first checking the vehicle over. Antifreeze should be changed every 3-4yrs. Brake fluid every 2-3yrs. Although MB seem to change there minds every time a new model comes out. You do not mention whether the price is inclusive of vat.

Thanks again Andy for the reply, the price does include VAT, parts and labour. Just a pity your garage is 114 miles from myself here in London. I just want for my own piece of mind to have the car fully serviced as the history on it concerns me a little. It will have to tow a race car all next year. Cheers.
