Again I am looking for help from the more experienced MB owners ... T

his morning I had a malfunction message appear stating "License Plate L, R" (there was a picture of a bulb beneath the message, I assumed this was my license plate light not working but upon checking all is working fine (this is on a 52 plate S500) - Has anyone any ideas on what this could be and how I could fix it without having to take out a second mortgage to pay for a MB dealership to take a look !!!

Many Thanks

Sometimes these things come up when there is no fault, let us know if the message comes up again.

probably a poor connection or the bulb is on it's way out. I had a similar problem with a front foglight. It was on when I checked but triggered the warning all the same. In the end I parked in front of a window and switched them on. One came on and the other followed a second or so later. The dealer cleaned up the connections and all was well again.

Next step

Mnay tahnks for the advice / feedabck, I am thinking taht my best option would be to replace both rear number plate bulbs (if the message continue to appear), woudl you know if :

1) this is relatively easy to do myself (I do have the users manual)

2) whetehr the bulbs are generic i.e. I could get the bulbs over the counter at somewhere such as Halfords

?

Again Many Thanks

open the boot to get easy access. They come out by just pushing the lens towards one side of the car, you will feel it springy in one direction, push in that direction. On the diagram of the lamp 130 the springy end is on the left, just keep pressed and the end that you are pushing from will come downwards and out.

Resolved

Thank you very much for your help, as you quite rightly said I got back to the car Friday and low and behold no more malfunction message !!! I guess maybe a bit of dust got into a sensor somewhere (that's me trying to sound as though I know what I am talking about) !!!!
