Hello everyone.
Firstly, I would like to extend my thanks to such a friendly and informative site.
A little history.....
I decided on Sunday night that I needed a decent 'touring' car to replace my aging V8 Discovery and it's silly 14 mpg!
This car needed to transport myself, wife, 3 kids, dog and associated camping equipment around the UK and into europe.
I have recently driven down through Europe to Italy and back, with all the camping gear in the Disco - yes! at 14 mpg!!!
I decided that I really needed something more capable of touring and with better economy - the latter gave me nearly the whole Mercedes range!
After a short time thinking - remember, this was only Sunday night, we're now on Wednesday! I had a shortlist of the 5 series B*W touring and the E-class estate.
I'm fairly familiar with BM's but not the Merc's
So, after many hours searching through this site, I came to a conclusion that a E-class was the perfect choice. To re-iterate this, I had a quick look yesterday at a 525Tds Touring and found that it wouldn't be suitable for us.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I now have a 1995 E220 estate auto sat on my driveway. I have spent all day (since 12 o'clock anyway) Cruising in it.
You are all right, on everything, it's a totally different experience and I love it. I should have done it years ago (I'm only 35 now!)
Well, thanks again for all your previous, very informative and helpful posts, I really appreciate it.
I look forward to chatting in the future.
Cheers, Scott.
