Massive rust problem on 2010 W212

I posted about my Subframe on Wednesday.
It was flat bedded to MB Portslade Sussex by RAC on Tuesday.
Health check Video was sent to me showing the damage to the rear subframe plus Tyres exhaust, Brakes and underbody.

Phone call this afternoon 4/2/22 Vehicle was ready for collection.
New sub frame fitted no charge. I am ecstatic. Double the value of my car.

Thank you MB for getting my car back to me so quickly.

SUBFRAME CORROSION UPDATE! Well, I have written a letter to Ms Shepherd, the head of Mercedes Cars UK! I basically told her it was disgusting that I could have had an horrific accident as a result of the corrosion of my subframe that MB have known about for some time, but have not informed owners of the problem! For sure MB knew about the issue, and they certainly do NOW! This, therefore, has potentially serious implications for the company! As of today I have not received a reply, although I have had a problem with my emails over the past couple of days! All I can say now is "watch this space!"

I’ve read reports on here that MB are replacing FOC.

For some owners, but not all! It seems a bit hit and miss! I am one of the lucky ones, although it still cost me several hundred pounds and no car for four weeks!

Just out of interest did you get a reply from
MB UK.
I was at my indy last week, he had a C class in and was doing a subframe. He had to wait 4 weeks for the part. MB cant even get hold of steel now it seems never mind every other part shortage.
Said he is doing one a week.

I contacted MB today, they asked me to book a investigation for the issue. They will take photo to send to MB UK to apply for work under warranty. They also mentioned if it is cover under warranty it will cover the investigation cost other wise I will pay for the investigation, £172 for an hour. I booked in Croydon dealer in Thursday for checkout. What will happen next? I expect to pay for investigation then if it approves under warranty they will do the work and refund me the investigation fee?

Yes, that is what will happen - they charge the investigation fee because of the warranty work doesn’t get done they’re down and hours labour fee.

Any chance I can request a courtesy car or request some compensation ? We planed our driving holiday to Wales before this sub frame issue, which pose a serious safety concern to Mercedes brand. Due to this unexpected issue. Now we have to make alternative arrangement to rent a car.

Mercedes aren’t overly concerned how a 12 year old car affects their brand. They’re in the market to lease mobile infotainment devices to +20 somethings these days.

You can ask about a courtesy car, they might have something available, although I wouldn’t be surprised if they haven’t

As you say it’s a safety item so you can certainly ask for one.
