In South Africa, when the W124 was released, 300E's had the following standard equipment: heated electrical rear view mirrors, power steering, climate control including aircon, electric windows, central locking, leather trim, cruise control, self levelling rear suspension, ABS brakes and rather top of the range Becker sound system, 2 airbags when it became available. Only options were: metallic paint, sunroof and automatic transmission. TE versions were only available in automatic, with sunroof standard (above standard equipment for 300E). Only option on TE was paint colour! This makes second hand 300E/TE's pretty fancy, reasonably priced motorcars in South Africa (mine was bought for 4,500 Euro in 2001; 242,000km on odo!)
