Max Carrying Capacity

I have a 1990 W124 300D saloon automatic.

I need to carry fairly large amounts of drink in the next few weeks, but cannot find anywhere what the maximum "payload" for a W124 is. Does anyone know?

Kind Regards,

SOWLERTHJH

It will be in the owners handbook, assuming you have one.

I think you will have to work it out using a bit of maths.

On the vin plate there should also be info on the gross vehicle weight (GVW), Gross coupled weight (GCW) for when towing and maximum weights for axle 1 and axle 2. To establish the maximum payload simply present your vehicle at a convienient weigh bridge (maybe your local tip?) with you and your intended passengers and a full tank of fuel and then deduct the actual weight from the GVW to find the differance.

Bear in mind that if you fill the boot with booze you may find that you overload the rear axle before you exceed the GVW and it pays to spread the load evenly throughout the vehicle. Also the sum of the allowable axle loads is usually greater than the GVW to allow for some uneven distribution of the weight.

Hope this helps and happy drinking?
