hi..
how fast we can go with cruise control. My W202 no more than 90 MPH,above that it will automatically off. Is that normal?

No experience of your model, but I can (allegedly) confess to using cruise at much higher speeds in our cars.

Logic is how would the car know that you are not doing 140 mph down an autobahn.

only do 50 in mine...passed the schools of course....

theoretically it should go to the maximum speed of the car otherwise it becomes pointless having it if it controls the speed you can no longer have it running at.

I think it may be developing some kind of fault...have it looked at.

Any speed from 40km up can be selected.

Are you sure you are not doing something wrong.
Don't actually know what you mean by it goes off over 90mph

Have you got speedtronic speedlimiter on yours.

from my memory if you have a speed limiter set, the yellow ! lights up and you cannot exceed your speed? is that whats happening as pascal suggests?

I don't really know what you mean by; SWITCH OFF.

Are you setting it by accelerating with the lever or just building up the speed with pedal.

I seem to remember there are 2 settings for the limiter. One normally controlled by the switch and the second a 'permanent' setting wither the limiter is on or not - intended for snow tyres where you have a max speed for the tyres but not well known in the UK as we don't use them. It sounds to me like its set to 90. I had a loan E (W211) a few months back and things started to light up around 100. It was getting too fast for the road conditions at the time so I slowed and never investigated further, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have gone much faster.

I can't see how it could possibly be a fault in the ECU - its too specific, I believe its a setting somewhere.

If it is the permenant speed limiter then the car will not go above the speed it is set at. If it is a fault with the cruise control itself it needs looking at. The car is designed to go down the unrestricted autobahns so there is no reason why it should stop controlling the speed above 90mph.

so we need more info. will the car go above 90mph without the cruise control on? How are you increasing the speed. If you apply to much throttle it will disengage after around 4 seconds or so. or at least it can do.

Try find a quiet bit of road and drive above 90mph (obviously a private track not the Queens highway!) and engage cruise and see if it works then and then get back to us.

My cruise only works up to 90mph, won't engage above that. Safety related and says so in my book.

The car will go above 90mph without the cruise control on..The problem only happen when i try to activate using cruise control by using stalk

Drive it up beyond 90 using pedal as normal(safely), and then flick the stalk briefly up or down. Maybe it just wont accelerate with the stalk above 90.

i think it has a fault myself..best have it looked at..perhaps some speed sensor is deactivating it for some reason...altho that said..you shouldnt be needing it at that speed unless you are driving where it is legal so,,,,,have it checked for faults which may occur at earlier speeds and if there are non i wouldnt bother paying to get it sorted....

mind you i am a skin flint....

Thinking about it, I've never actually tried the cruise over about 85. - if I get enough clear road on the way home tonight I'll give it a go. Perhaps none of them do.

My book says I can set it at any speed from 25mph to 148mph.

Haven't tried it at the latter yet through:)

Had a quick test last night.
Took it up to just over 90, set the cruise ok and then pulled the lever up. The car happily accelerated to around 100. (when I had to slow down). Later set it to 95 and it held without a problem.

Cruise control suddenly disengages at 51 MPH

I have a E240 -98 where the cruise control suddenly has begun disengaging at 51 MPH or 83 KPH. Previously is has worked beatifully up to maximum speed at approx 137 MPH/220 KPH.
I cannot understand why.
If it is broken what part must I exchange?

The only two reasons I can see is a faulty/loose connection from the brake light circuit, or a problem with the software on the computer. This can be reset, but unfortunatley means a visit to your main dealer.

As both your problems seem to be at a certain speed, and not erratic, I would suspect the latter of the above two solutions
