Hi
I have an S320CDi Auto 2001. Recently car seems to kick into safe mode - wont allow me to go above 2000 revs when going through the gears, and only goes above when it reaches about 60 - 70 mph. Wont accept kickdown. No fault codes coming up. Any ideas out there would be appreciated - thanks

When you say, no fault codes, do you mean on the dash or on a code reader plugged into the ECU. I'd expect something on the ECU if kick down has been disabled - (does cruise work - this is normally disabled too). The common candidates are turbo pipe and MAS but if it is in safe mode, the ECU will only do this as a result of a fault and the code should be there.

without knowing the exact model of your car,two common faults are, lose connector on ETC module, or connector on transmission, or output speed sensor defective.
Once you have a faultcode read out, you will have the answer.

2000 rpm

My car is an S320CDi. Wont go above 2000 revs when going through the gears, until it reaches about 60mph. I can use tiptronic but wont go above 3000 revs. Not had any recent service or oil change, but any help and advice would be appreciated as to what the problem might be
Thanks for your help
Regards

Richard,
In safe mode it is saying that the ECU doesn't reliably know what is going on. As a result, for all you know, it's pouring fuel into the cat and you will end up with a massive repair bill for the sake of a loose plug or dicky sensor. Personally, I wouldn't drive it further than a workshop. Get a diagnostic done and let us know what it's reporting. It is impossible to advise (with any confidence) without knowing what the codes in the ECU memory are.
