Hi all

Got a Preg W202 C200 sport, noticed that there is a lot of mayo/cream in the rad, this usually equals a blown head gasket but i was thinking the gearbox oil also runs through the rad to. So is there any way of checking if its engine oil or gear box oil before I have to get he head taken off.

Unlikely to be the gear box on your car sir

If the car is only used for short runs then it can build up
Is the ware level dropping
Wipe it clean and check after a drive for any water droplets in the cap or on the engine dip stick

how did you get the car Pregnant ? ;-)

apart from that, the W202 can suffer from a leaking head gasket, i know, because i have one, however that said my radiator fluid is ok so far,

have a look under your engine, do you see a lot of oil buildup ?

update and problems

Got the headgasket sorted out it had gone internally and was not due to overheating and the head warping.

Mayo stuff in the water system, I used a water system degreaser "forte" £14 was very good and now very clean.

Now the bad news, when I got the car back from my friend that put it back together it was making a whining noise and the next day broke down. He has taken the top off the engine and said that one of the pulleys that the timing chain wraps around has snapped!!!!!!!!!!

For that to snap I'm thinking that there must have been a lot of pressure there I'm off to see him tonight as he said that it may have bent the valves.

any clues as to what may of happened would be helpful

Chain tensoner fitted incorrectly, result chain very tight and the sprocket on the inlet camshaft has snapped, new camshaft, some valves etc.

Yes the timing chain tensioner was incorrectly fitted, it must always be removed and returned to it fully closed position, before re fitting, it has happened many times
