The air conditioning on my 300CE has stopped working and I am pretty certain that it is because the coolant is empty.

As it is a 1992 model, it is R12 coolant and not available now.

Does anyone have experience of converting from R12 to R134A, costs, efficiency etc.

Regards
John

First off, ask yourself why it is empty...... I'd bet the condensor is leaking as they all collect mud and leaves, this gets wet and rusts the condensor.

Does the compressor attempt to start up? If it does and then shuts off after a second or so, it could be no gas, or the compressor not coming up to speed cos it is partially seized. I have had a broken wire in the connector that feeds the compressor too....

Good luck, let us know how it goes?
