Just received a letter from my local MB dealership offering a 'special June only offer' of a half price A/C system leak test and re-gass for £59.95 inc vat.......They will also replace the Receiver/dryer for £74.95 if required (also at half price)

Is this a 'good' price?

I dont know if this is a local offer only or if it is national.....

For MB the price seems decent enough. I paid £50 at an AC speciallist recently for the leak test and re-gas. My only reservation of using the dealers is that AC is not their speciality.

That doesn't sound too bad, however its a bit opportunistic since modern MB's have their AC on by default and shouldn't in theory suffer from much leakage :)

If yours is working properly I'd leave it alone tbh.

I am tempted to take up the offer but there is a side of me that says 'if it aint broke dont fix it' and as my climate A/C has worked perfectly for the last 4 years without any problems or attention i am reluctant to have it messed about with..........any comments?

English summer will be over in a couple of days...

..... look at it next year

Mines normally off and its still working strong, occasionally, when I remember (normally every month, but last month was January wasnt it!), I 'Push for On' to see if its all ok, which I did only last week, and all was ok.

Old adage, if it aint fixed, dont break it (or something like that) :)

Best to leave the AC on most of the time, failures appear to be most common when the system isn't used much. Makes sod all difference to fuel economy anyway :)

Do it!! Well, if it is the full service, re-gass and internal cleaning.

I paid £99 on our old C class - it was, quite literally, like a breath of fresh air........and talk about freezing cold.

Really was best value £ 100 have parted with at the stealership.

All depends if you really need it. Mines still icy cold after 5.5 years, and I dont use it regularly because it saps power, in an under powered vehicle. MB should have put a Tortoise picture on the button!

If Im pottering around town, Ill put it on, but otherwise its off. The Lamella open, to me, is a much better option.

Question regarding your offer, is it a ruse? A case of, 'hello sir, your drive belt needs replacing' on top of the re-gas, or a genuine offer to get clients back into dealers?

Handy tip for air con

Don't forget that if you turn your air con off, a couple of miles before your destination, that will let the evaporator dry out before you park up,this stops it from rotting away. You have all seen the puddle under the car.

Especially if it drips for a while...

as that usually means the drain above the bellhousing is blocked with leaf compost and dust sludge (in the older cars with no filter) and will definitely lead to rotting and a stink in the car..
