there'r been loads of posts, so do a search. I pay a little over £70 per month and have already had over £2000 worth of work done on the car, and it's in again on Wednesday. Only cars upto 6 years old though. I don't know how old yours is

ever thought about Service Plus?
I know we've had discussions about ServicePlus, and I have been surprised and delighted by the range of cover, but I really would be gobsmacked if something like this (or indeed any kind of water ingress) was covered. (Note I'm not saying it wouldn't be - just that I'd be gobsmacked!). :D

I assume it has been caused by a failure of the seals. If the seals had failed rather then been damaged it's hard to see how MB could say it isn't covered by Service Plus.

That is an astonishing amount of money to have some drain holes cleaned out:shock:

I don't mean to be patronising, but could you not have had a poke around yourself?

The only thing I would ever take a car to a stealer for is to get the service stamps in the book to keep any warranty valid (if the day ever comes that I have a car new enough to be covered:) ). Any work that I couldn't do myself would be done by an Indie. I just can't see the logic in paying MB hand over fist to do general work

Cracking car though :D

It's an unanswerable question (until MB are tested) but I'd say 'failed' might be an issue. ServicePlus is for wear an tear, so if the seal had worn out, then there's no problem. However 'failed' might be a different kettle of fish!

The drain may have simply just been bunged up.

As you don't do many miles, the services won't come too quick so the big MB dealer bills won't be too frequent and this keeps any warranty safe.

However, NEVER TAKE IT TO THE MAIN DEALER FOR ANY WORK THAT YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR. Even work that they say needs doing at servicing time - If they phone you and say "Blah Blah your brake disks are a bit low..." you say "thank you very much, change my oil and stamp my book" and take it to a nice friendly Indie who'll replace the disks for quite literally HALF the price.

Main dealer for servicing because you have to for warranty claims.
NOT for ANYTHING else!

Happy motoring!

Do some indies not have STAR, or is it strictly stealer only?

You're right though, it's pretty much the same with all modern cars.

But surely things like replacing bits of rubber don't need STAR? What about consumables like disks and pads?

There are the equivalents of Star, but for a MB you have to spend almost £3k

I have already posted here how you can do the Pads and disc without and so has seabadger. You can do the rubbers without.

I went to a main dealer once, many years ago when I had a Volkswagen LT28 which I had converted to a "caravanette".

This was about 17 years ago, and what happened was the handbrake lever had been getting higher and higher and as it was on the right hand side of the drivers seat it eventually got to the stage where it hooked the left cheek of my arse as I jumped out of the van one evening!

I checked it out and found the the rod that runs from the handbrake release button to the ratchet was baldly worn.

As was my arse!

The next day I ordered a new one from a main dealer (a handbrake rod not an arse!) and was told it would be delivered in a van from Belgium the next day around 12 mid day and to phone first.

"Great Story" I thought but at 11.45 the next day I called and was told the item would be there by 12.00 and went to pick it up.

At 12.05 I walked in the door and was told there had been a slight delay, I was given a seat in a nice customer seating area, and a free coffee!

At 12.10 I got my handbrake part.

70p.

It was great service but I have never bought anything from a main dealer since then in case it was a fluke! :p
