New member would appreciate anyone telling me where the alarm module of a 1997 C180 Esprit is situated. I checked under the rear seat but not there. And the pump too. My car refuses to respond to the fob sometimes but responds at other times. Inner lights also stay lit. When I disconnect the battery for a few minutes, the car responds to the fob but misbehaves after some time. Some other times, the car lights up in response to the remote but the doors do not open or they all spring open when I manually open the driver's door. The autoelectrician said its to do with the alarm module but can't locate it. Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Goddy.

Location
2 inches from your rear bumper
Mr Haynes manual doesn't give the location, it just tells you to take it to a dealer - very helpful. Have you checked under the bonnet, beneath the plastic cover on the near side?

Thanks Mondeomans and smee. There is a plastic electrical device in the booth on the left-hand side with some part number on it. Could that be the alarm module? Your help will be very much appreciated by a man whose grey hair is multiplying from worrying over MB electrical problems.

C180 central locking problem

Hi everyone,
Finally found what I believe is the pump (don't know if the alarm module is attached to this) in a foam box in the boot above the cd changer. Does anyone have an idea what I need to do to it to make my central lcoking what perfectly? I disconnected the battery for about two hours and reconnected it this evening. The car responded to the remote immediately after the reconnection but the problem relapsed within minutes. Thanks in advance.
Goddy.

dose the pump run when u try 2 activate the central locking?

remove the base of the pump 2 reveal the circuit board and check for water marks

have you tried changing the batterys in your fob ?

put new ones in and then resynch it with the car

i believe to resynch you have to do as follows

get in the car, press the fob so that the car locks, press again so it unlocks (should be green on the mirror led) then insert the key in the ignition to the I or II position, then turn car off, remove key, press fob again to 'lock'

cheers

Thanks anyweb. Tried yor suggestion and it was bang on but the car reverted to its annoying style after two days. Tried it again today and appears to be working so far. Fingers crossed.
Cheers and thanks to all who are helping me solve the problem. I want to avoid the stealership (or better still, robbership) for now since I spent laods at a nearby so-called merc garage sometime ago only for the problem to return. By the way, my airbag light is on. Any suggestions?

best get the fault codes read try ur local garages 2 see if one has a bosch kts scanner this should work on ur car. 2 most common faults iv seen are seat belt tensioners usually a bad connection under the seats or the ribbon behind the steering wheel but u usually lose the horn aswell

Thanks, smee. However, my horn works. The stealership is of the opinion that my driver side front door sensor is not communicating with the onboard computer and that could be responsible for the airbag light remaining on. My electric window and mirror mechanisms on the same door are also not responding. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Finally, I managed to correct the central locking problem. After resynching my fob, I discovered on close examination of the engine area that the earth wire connected to the alternator/pump was expertly severed and was stuck in a corner of the engine where it will not be easily spotted. I suspect the stealership. Since connecting the wire, my central locking and alarm have been in superb shape.

can only think of the wiring going into the door. peel the rubber cover which goes into the door back and check for any broken wiring
