I have a problem with a 1997 C230 . The SMS light remains on. The car was involved with an accident and front new air bags were fitted. But the repairer knew very little about them. The car was returned and the SMS light will not go out. It has been investigated and I am told that the repairer cut the wire close to the loom and hence there is a break in the circuit. The computer has had some new items fitted to it and its all a terrible mess. Does anybody know what I should do. MB themselves want to charge a fortune to repair it and that will exceed the worth of the car.
How do I get the SMS light out. If I take the fuse out it also stops the windows operating, so thats not an option. I have been told that perhaps I should take the bulb out from the rear of the SMS light. But I wonder if that will then show up another light showing that the Bulb is missing. If anybody can help I would be most greatful You can either reply here or come tho Davidneots@Yahoo.co.uk

Many Thanks

3 things come to mind on this. Was the car repaired under an insurance policy,If so there might be some comeback from them, cus they would have authorised repairs at a sub standard garage.Which wont look good on the insurers reputation.Or take car back and tell the garage to sort it,Or preferably seek leagal advice about taking the car to someone who knows what they're doing and send the bill to the garage that carried out the shoddy work.

I agree wih pluggers approach. I presume tho' you mean SRS and not SMS, unless it's a Nokia!

However, just a few points:

 "cutting wires close to the loom" is OK as long as you don't cut the loom.

 I think that the airbags actually have plug/socket connectors.

 The system usually needs to be reset with a diagnostics computer.

:?: Were the crash impact sensors replaced?
