Turnipsock brought this up yesterday in the benz bin, re the car policies where you have two cars on one policy. Several quotes down the line , the highest at £1400 for my SL, the MB insurance scheme will do it for £425 NU want £700.

For me I had the Volvo on a 7 year no caims, and the MB a 2 year, as it was a new policy.
The MB insurance will mirror the 7 year no claims, so nothing lost.

So with the best quote from Adamaral at £695,and a saving of £75 on the Volvo I am £250 better off wth the MB insurance on the SL.

Oh to have one car group 17 and the other 20 that's almost top marks on both. :D :D MB have quoted me happy

I'm pretty sure MB insurance is through NU anyway.

The price seems very good - they were some way out on my car.

You should try Direct Line, I'm with them and I am only paying £770 for the C43 and I've got zero no-claims (I'm 30). My brothers car W210 E320 is in my fathers name and he is only paying £450 and that is with my mother, brother and and myself on it.

My only advice regarding insurance is to shop around every year.

I would say "quote me happy" by norwich union is good, i just tried getting a quote from MB insurance online and they quoted over £900. now i am 28 and I do have 8 years no claim bonus aaand licence for over 9 years and no motoring convictions (touch wood). "Quote me happy" charges me about £700. quote from Tesco or virgin.com is about £400 but they need a tracker to be fitted :(

I was with ASDA insurance last year and they were cheap in first year but then they increased the price for renewal.

So as Blobcat mentioned above.... shopping is the best way to go especially to get the new customer attractive price.

p.s. its a clk230k

i used confused.com every year at renewal time - always get a saving.

Had a E60 (new shape) 5 series bmw a couple of years ago and from the first year of insuring to the 2nd i saved £250 by shopping around. My motto is never accept the renewal quote from your insurers - you can do better elsewhere and they know it too

You must be as old as me, and live somewhere quiet like me, and you only use the car to go to church on Sunday

I agree with not accepting the renewal quote without shopping around, but I was with Direct Line for 4-5 years because despite getting 3 quotes every year, their renewal quote was the cheapest every year!

When I bought my CLK in July, I got 7 quotes and Mercedes Insurance came 4th, more than £250 more than my lowest quote, which was from privilege.com.

Actually if you count the fact that American Express sent me three quotes, I had 9 altogether, and they ranged from £335 to £1023 for the same cover!!! If this doesn't illustrate that you must shop around, what does?

Direct Line consistantly come out cheapest for me. Just renewed £402 fully comp with protected no claims and legal cover (for what that's worth). I could possibly save £20-30 by shopping around but I'm not convinced it's worth the effort.

Directline is cheaper - they have same online interface as Tesco , and quote i get from them is nearly same as Tesco under £350 ... but then for this insurance, it requires a tracker to be fitted :( ...
Was just wondering! do many cars get stolen ?!? surely not when cars now have immobilisers !!?!?

Of all the SL ads, of around 200 cars, only 3 have had trackers fitted. I know that the new trackers only operate if the car is locked, and then moved. How long does it take to winch one into the back of a box lorry, once inside the tracker would not function. to be double sure the car only needs to covered with a metalized cover.

Interesting now that the insurance companies ask if you are a member of the advanced drivers.

Confused.com, check this out every time a renewal is due.

Insurance companies vary the emphasis on different factors of the quote, hence they don't all come up with the same figure. If you have a killer post code you may get a cheap quote with one company and a rubbish quote with somebody else. Some companies favour people with loads of 'no claims', others will target people with little 'no claims'.

I'm with 'Direct Choice' which is really Taylor Price.

I thought there was a news story where NU was set to do a quantum leap in car insurance. If we all shop around then we can keep the prices low. The same applies to buying wine, if we all only buy wine at £5/bottle then the price of wine will never go higher than that.

Got the renewal through for the Jeep at around £600 which I thought was pretty steep so I punched it into http://www.moneysupermarket.com/motor/
Got a quote back from Sainsburys at £300 - so she'll be persuing that one this morning. Amusingly, even after adding breakdown cover, it's still cheaper than the RAC with thier free breakdown cover - though not by much.

I also tried mine and I reckon despite them saying premiums have gone up, I can actually get a lower premium for the Merc on renewal than I paid last year.

According to Tracker's website the radio transmitter does work from inside a metal crate, which is not surprising because sheet metal on its own does not stop radio waves. You can even use a cellphone from inside a box lorry, and cellphone signals are vastly more fragile because of the need for a timing signal in order to get a clear conversation.

A colleague told me about a lawyer friend of his who had a CL-class stolen, and thanks to the tracker it was found inside a cargo container near Heathrow, ready to be shipped abroad. Cargo containers are way more solid than a box van! (The scarier part of the story was that the thieves saw it on his drive, and broke into the house in the night, woke them up and demanded the keys.)

My slk has tracker but I haven't set it up from the prev owner as my insurance dropped from £480 pounds for my Jaguar to £300 pounds for the slk with More Than (Jag was with Direct line) so didn't need to.
The monthly cost of the tracker would outweigh the cost of the insurance!!!

I would ask, I would imagine it would because it's added security, they like that!

Since I moved from Bournemouth to the Country my insurance is a lot cheaper ;)
