The metal key will need to be cut. This is probably only the outer shell and not the electronics. Either way it will need to be programmed. And if you read the reviews for this company it will take several weeks/months for you to receive item if you receive at all.

Keys need to be programmed based on VIN and are usually ordered from MB dealerships from Germany. If that was not the case everyone would be buying chinese alibaba keys and having a field day driving off in any merc they like.

There is a company in Birmingham that also does fobs and programming (the name slips my mind) but a search of the forum will find it.

What do you need a complete working new fob and blade, just a blade, or the shell?

Thanks all for the info ... @mioba The car came with only one key so I was looking for a complete new key.

Thoroughly recommend RMK.
They did a pair of keys for my SL and were spot on.

Then as seen above, MB dealer or RMK. A spare is a must.
Post back as to how you get on and avoid the alibaba tat.

Most locksmiths will only cut keys they supply .. this is because most cheaper aftermarket keys are steel not brass and they ruin the cutting machine and also break quite easily in lock barrel.. hence outfits like Timpsons will give you a guarantee on any key they supply but are not interested in cutting any aftermarket steel keys

Would recommend RMK, having used them in the past.
From what I gather each car is assigned around 6 key identities by MB, hence a brand new key has to involve them and the VIN.
Also, probably be worth having the missing key deregistered from your vehicle so that it will no longer work.

Good stuff. A spare key is worth its weight in gold.

I went to MB today and learnt that in order to marry the key to the Push Start button the key needs to be placed close to the receiver which is situated somewhere near the centre console cup holders. All is working OK now.

Reading this thread for the first time I am curious about a couple of things...
You said "My new key works fine but I can't get it to work with the 'Push Start button".
Starting the car is your keys most important job so surely that meant it wasnt working fine?
When you said it needed to be placed close to the receiver was this an initial first time only thing and you can now keep the fob in your pocket if you choose to do so?

OK, just to clarify, initially, when I got the new key, the 'push button start/stop engine' did not work when I had the key in my pocket, so I had to put the key in the ignition to start the car. I went to my local Mercedes dealership yesterday and the parts guy who I'd been dealing with put the key in the cup holder draw and used the button to start the car. He then gave me the key back (which I put in my pocket) and everything worked fine, including the start/stop button.

Thanks for that, I understand now. :)
I am assuming your car has a traditional ignition barrel for a key as well as a push button start.
Mine does not have this although it does have an emergency key contained within the fob but this is only used to gain access to the vehicle.

I believe the push button start is an add-on that goes into the ignition switch

Before I made my last post I checked my manual regarding the emergency key but it made no mention of this key being able to start the engine, just it's ability to unlock the door.
