Can these guys not make anything of quality now. For last yrs mot I bought a new genuine benz rear wiper for the ml. Less a Yr later all the rubber blade has split off. And that's with the car dry parked for 80% of the last Yr.

The problem is the car being parked - sun and ozone really kills rubber - My Landy can suffer the same from being parked

MB didn't make the wiper blade though.
Bosch or another well known company probably won a contract to supply wiper blades for all the range.

WD40 works really well at rejuvenating wiper rubbers but alas no point if it’s split.

Conti usually make the rubber blades for all European OEMs regardless of who packages it (Bosch etc).

I don't buy genuine MB wiper blades anymore. Bosch are top of my list with HQ second.

Their radiators have bad press, but Valeo make pretty good wiper blades similar to Bosch.

Valeo make everything. Lamps, wipers, pumps, radiators, bumpers- they’re bigger than many of their OEM customers.

In the garage!

Yes even parked 80% of the time in a garage.
I have a Citroën here which was parked up in a nice dry garage for over 20 years, all the tyres cracked and perished, rubber components on the hydraulic system perished, even the wiper blade rubbers had dried and split.

XM - I used to have one. The most unreliable car I have ever owned. And my favourite.

When you buy new wipers keep the plastic protective strip they come with and slide it back on if you are leaving it for a long while. It stops them sitting laid over one way which makes them chatter. My car in Florida handled lots of Summer storage out in the sun by doing this. Just remember to take them off when you go back to it.

Next have a motor home and they alway place a champagne cork (I’m a wine cork would work just as well) under the wiper arm to lift the blades off the screen for the exact same reason you mentioned, looks odd but when it might sit for a couple of months at a time it does make perfect sense

Your first point is correct, MB quality is dire for some of us.
Your complaint is about wiper blades, but how about a 2017 SLC300 with only 11,000 miles on the clock which has had a new roof and seals due to water ingress, thankfully done under warranty. Since the warranty ran out, a new LED headlamp at £1000 due to electrical motor not working and the non working Blind Spot Assist required a new rear radar unit at £600, all plus labour and diagnostic costs!
Mercedes are not interested in any goodwill payment whatsoever and now according to Icarsoft, the various warning lights on the dash more recently are due to a front left wheel sensor needing replaced. So no ABS, traction control or braking assist while that light is on. (Amazing on a low mileage 2017 car!)
My 2016 C class, 37,000 miles, has just announced I have less than 500 miles left before it will not start again, I've already replaced a NoX sensor and Icarsoft reckons the Adblue injector needs replaced now. No matter what this costs to get repaired, I've no doubt the other NoX sensor will be next, closely followed by the Adblue tank itself, probably another couple of thousand for all that.
It all costs thousands, but I will happily tell anyone listening to never consider a Mercedes unless they wish to bankrupt themselves.

Just needed new cam chains, tensioners and 1 new cam for my V8 after less than 100K miles, over £4k with an indie. Surely a chain setup should last longer than this, even belts last 50K and cost under a grand to replace

I don't think I've got much choice as the washer jets on mine are integral with the blade. :(

No 2 ways about it adblu is a shite system. Maybe on all makes. I had the 500 mile story half way to Yorkshire last week. Cleared it and now waitin to see. The tank and sensor, injector was replaced 2 yr ago. I won't be keeping this car
