Right chaps (and chapesses), I have just had a phone call from the lovely and very helpful Charlotte from Benz World and I need your input.

She is going to arrange a section of the car park for us and was trying to arrange a guided tour but unfortunately the tour guide is fully booked. However, she can also provide a guide specifically for the classic car exhibit if anyone is interested. This is an SL exhibit showing the entire history of the SL (Malcolm, I expect you'd be interested in that).

This is a no-cost option BUT they do need to get the guy in specifically so we need to arrange a time if we are interested. I suggest 13:30.

They also have a 3D simulator of the CLK production line. This takes 8 people at a time. We can block book this, again at no cost, but they need a suggested time. I would say 15:00 (gives us enough time for to see the SL exhbit and lecture). Again this is a no cost option. There is also an interactive engineering lab with all sorts of things we can try.

They have also said they can arrange a specific meetign place with tea, coffee and biscuits at £2.50 + VAT per person. Please let me know if you want to do this as again I will arrange a time but we need to pay this up front. Alternatively there is a cafe if you would all rather just meet there and pay for any tea/coffee you want when you want it.

Can I please have your responses by the end of today (if poss) so I can get back to Charlotte.

So :

1. Do we want the SL History guy to come and give us a talk?
2. Is 13:30 ok for this?
3. Do we want to block-book the simulator?
4. Is 15:00 ok for this?
5. Do we want Tea/Coffee/Biscuits laid on (at cost) or would you all prefer just using the cafe?

Items 1 to 4 I shall go ahead with unless anyone strongly objects.

Item 5 I do want answers on. Personally I think just using the cafe will suffice, although it will probably work out a little more expensive.

I think the cafe sounds like the best option, otherwise I'll have to tap everyone up for the cash. Although it's not much, it does add up and I'll probably end up paying it if I miss anyone (it needs to be paid in advance).

I will respond to Charlotte tonight.

Please count me in, perhaps plus 1. Hopefully the car is out of the bodyshop and the wheels will be restored if not - no smirking or sniggering at the painted alloys please.. ;)

Cafe sounds good to me

To make sure blobcat is not parked on his own with his 129 V8 I have decided to make a couple of extra cylinders out of plastic cups and stick them on with blu-tak so no one can tell if they lift the bonnet

Well I've got the right number of cylinders but they are a little small. I could chissle the 240 bit off the boot but then there's the whole shape thing. I think I'll just leave my car at the Silvermere :(

To paraphrase a well known saying - its not the size it's what you do with them that matters ;)

chaps (and chapesses) can you stick to the original post for replying. I started a new one because I thought the detail may get lost on the original thread but it's turning into a bit of a headache replying in both places :(

best laid plans and all that....
