Sounds like the dealer is having a laugh..... lose the dealer! They sound to be just part swappers, not analysts who think out the problem. A very expensive way to go forward.

The EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) on the exhaust system can log a fault code. There is another device, cant remember much about it, which monitors the oxygen content of exhaust gases. Other possible devices are the MAF (Air Mass Sensor) and Boost Pressure Actuation Transducer (Turbo Charger actuator).

Many on this forum has had problems with the MAF, whereas Ive had problems with the BPAT.

2000rpm sounds serious, because the MAF and BPAT limit you to 3000rpm. Could possibly be the auto-box. Do a search on the forum for auto-box faults.

Do you have any other information, ie. The Fault Codes which were read out?

I would have started with the MAF, apart from anything else it's a cheap item with a limited life and even if it is ok if it has done a sumbstanial milage its remaining life will be very limited.

Very sure that it will be the MAF, One can be obtained from any Bosch agent at half the price of MB, it comes without the plastic housing, but then nothing goes wrong with that.

MB 270Cdi Auto power loss

Thanks all for your help.I will contact MB dealer tomorrow for any fault codes. Unfortunately MB in Gibraltar come under MB in Spain and it was Madrid that suggested they change the exhaust and cats.I have to say that I suspect the Turbo but could be wrong.

Thanks to all for help last night but have found today that they will not give me the fault code. They are in touch with MB Espana in Madrid. What I would loke to do is put it on a trailer to France or Germany where there would be a better chance of solving the problem,as after 2-3 months of hassles I have no confidence in the vehicle for more than a 25k trip!

Try disconnecting it and se if it revs, if it does then it's the MAF, works on VW and Audi but not sure if it will on MB.

Complete exhaust change? Pricey I bet!!

Tell me that you didn't have to pay for the complete exhaust change... It annoys me that MB use this as a way of detecting what the problem is...

I had a similar issue although revs weren't limited to 2k but it did show similar sign and symptoms... mine was due to a pre-cat break up causing backpressure etc...

Replaced the unit and away I went. Having said that MB said they would replace the whole system as the breakup would block the second cat etc etc etc - Would have cost me almost £1.9k for MB to rectify a fault...

Crazy!
