Hello, I have the latest map version 2022 (V18.0) Europe installed on MBUX and have selected “Fast Route” (Same as my old Comand Online); however the MBUX SatNav takes me all around the houses and back doubles in my local area, so I just ignore it and go the way I know.

The thing is it’s going to do this when I go on holiday far away somewhere!!

Anybody else have this issue with MBUX?

live traffic causing it to reroute ? - you could try same journey at different congestion levels and or turn of rerouting and see if it is still mad

the trouble with traffic rerouting is nothing defines the level of driving effort for the re routing.... so if google crooks sees a bit of partly congested motorway, it will have you come off to hack round 25 miles of hell doing a wheel on a pothole and both door mirrors, just so it was 2 seconds faster - or you fall asleep and save 2 gallons of fuel on a bit of motorway that cleared up and get there on time anyway...

Hi @Botus I’ve got live traffic until April 2026, but I don’t think that’s the problem because the routes I have been taking have been clear of the red icons denoting a build up of slow or stationary traffic.

The other issue I have is I cannot select “Dynamic Route”; however that could be me thats new to MBMX.

dynamic would be - keep changing my mind and re routing ?

used to simple

shortest - might well take the longest time and get you stuck on a farm lane - but physically is less miles traveled
fastest - so long as the motorway isn't shut by the idiots (as usual) as 6 hrs ago a wheel trim fell off - is less time
dynamic - was 20 min radio signals of traffic monitored major roads, might wander you about trying to be helpful by re routing
live - is regular data theft from yourself and others, helping train in where they need to build the next road narrowing scheme to blockade the roads even more

the issue with fastest and indeed dynamic, before traffic congestion come in to play - they are both based on the speed limits the map in your car believes are out there - which with 50% of 60mph being converted to 40, some 50 and 40s are now 30, and most towns now have joke 20 zones everywhere. Its not just the time gap - but the total gridlock these changes deliberately brought, that are the issue - plus, then we need to get past every other car at the side of the road now holding things up with a flat tyre, or broken wheel from the wonderful roads they deliberately left to fall to bits

its could be a GPS signal issue, and with a bit of drop out on a complex route it keeps starting over and over... not sure on current stuff - many old ones you can find how many satellites it can see and how reliably they are behaving - its an option on mine to show a tiny graphic - in place of say, time of arrival

I wonder what happens if its on spy on me mode, doing a complex re-route and with a mobile mast is randomly offline. Does it gets a muddle on, goes back to trying the old way, then gets a bit of a mobile signal then goes a bit potty ?

Mobile masts offline for 6 to 12 months for no explained reason is now a normal bit of fun they play with near me all the time... I'd say in 10 mile radius of me 35% are on off for month, or often lots longer - been like that for the last few years... we don't matter and all the tech gave up - so they just leave the place crumbling - being english - apparently its never been better....

Many thanks @Botus for your detailed explanation, I will try a few different scenarios over the weekend in local areas that I know well.

Hi @Botus, I have just noticed that I have 'Traffic Incidents' and 'Delay' highlighted (please see photo) could this be part of the problem?

well I don't have such a modern set up - could be lots of things

1) is this a section where you can choose to enable disable the feature - and its just saying, you have on - please use to redirect if required etc.?

2) some fool transmitting lies on to the system - 5 years back I had to rant at offcom as a local station sent traffic reports incessantly as an advertising campaign - never any traffic info and they never switched it off so you just hear them all the time

3) is there a bit of long term roadworks on a main route and its pushing you and now lots of others on the route you usually use - blocking up your sneaky back route - till its redirecting you to a more convoluted route missing traffic on the usual re route ?

Yes, I can enable or disable these features, At the moment because they are highlighted in blue means they are enabled.
I will try disabling them tomorrow and see if that helps to avoid the back doubles.

No this is not the case, no roadworks at all in my local area. All I can say is in my old Comand Online system set on "Fast Route" would take me down the same route I would normally take, unlike MBUX !!

maybe it is "legally" faster, based on small changes in either congestion or speed limits on the route you are used to ?
