i need some help please,
i am thinking of having my 500sl 1991 converted to LPG.
however the company needs to know if it is a mechanical or electronic injection.
how can i check this? any engine features or will it be on a list?
frame no? 1290662F034064.
many thanks

Almost certainly KE Jetronic, mechanical injection.

Look at the back of the plastic engine cover up by the bulkhead, if you see a silver unit about 5" in diameter with loads of small diameter metal pipes heading off to different parts of the engine, then you have mechanical injection for sure.

...and by the way, my advice would be, don't do it !

KE Jetronic and LPG are not the best of friends, you will find old threads on this forum to confirm that.

How many miles a week are you doing to get through that much fuel?

I have just bought my 500SL and you have got me worried !

Well, thats a fair mileage, so I suppose a 5L engine will use that much fuel.

I can only suggest doing what I do, keep another car as a daily beater commute, something small and diesel would allow you to keep the SL for weekends and nice days?

I can achieve between 22 and 26 doing 30 mile urban runs, when I bought it it returned 29.9 doing motorway miles

your right there.. getting about 22ish mpg..
but it breaks your heart when you see figure like 60-65mpg on these new desiels...
i know that they are a totally different breed of cars to the sl but it does put a rye smile on your face at the petrol pumps...
