As I have quite a bit of spare time on my hands I tend to was both cars twice a week, whilst this keeps the cars always looking good I have noticed that all my washing is removing the polish quite quickly, so no real protection is then left on the cars

I have been using Mer polish, which I find easy to apply and polish off, however if it comes off after a number of washes maybe I need to re-think what polish to use. Having done a search it would seem that Meguirs comes out highly recommended, with Autoglym a close second.

My question is, has anyone here used either of these two polishes and if so how long does the application last and £ for £ what's the best deal :?:

Auto Express did a test VERY recently on polishes. Cant recall the winner, but I think it was Autoglym. I will look it up if I remember tonight. But dont hold your breath!

Hi,
Meguirs is what you can buy from Mercedes Dealers and is recommended buy Mercedes.
I have used Meguirs, Autoglym and Mer and IMO Meguirs is far superior and they make a superb range of car care products, i did always think they were a bit expensive but my recent purchases of Meguirs have come from E-Bay and at a good price too.
Google 'Meguirs' as there web site has videos with product demonstrations showing you the results and applications of their product.

Ooooops! I'm afraid a bit of a typo on the above post.

Go to:

www.meguiars.co.uk

That should do it.

Hi,
I used their 'clay bar' (to make the paint surface smooth) then i put on a coat of their 'wax cleaner' (available from MB dealers £14.95 or £6.99+p&p off of E-Bay) This gets rid of swirls in the paint etc and makes it as smooth as glass.
As i had some scratches and marks in the paint i decided to use another make of coloured polish which reduced the visibility of these imperfections. I then finished off with a coat of Meguairs wax/polish, NXT i think it was, it took 4-5 hours all together but the finish was superb well worth the effort.
I would thoroughly recommend it.
Did you look at their website (link has been posted in the thread).
You can buy Meguairs as i said from E-Bay, but they also sell a limited selection of Meguairs products in Halfords and Motorworld.
E-Bay links,

The cleaner wax is available from MB Dealers but it is in a Mercedes bottle.

Hope this has been of some help to you.

Thanks Andy - need to conserve some energy, I think I'll start with the SLK - it's a lot smaller than the E class ;)

Well, I posted on this thread earlier - but it didn't appear. Now I've got to re-type it...

I am currently using Meguiars after recommendations on here:
http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/

Those guys know everything about shiny cars and it is a very friendly and helpful forum. I bought my stuff when Meguiars was 3 for 2 at Halfords. I got the Stage 1 paint cleaner, Stage 2 polish, and then the Nxt Tech Wax (better than the stage 3 wax apparently).

It is a lot of work, but then you just use the wax every few weeks. The red paint on my 2000 Carisma is badly faded but the Meguiars has brought it back pretty well. The roof goes back to 'pink' quite quickly (can't reach to do it properly) but it would probably need machine polishing to get that sorted out.

Overall, I am very impressed. Mer is very good, but I found it left a lot of dusty residue. Autoglym Super resin Polish is good too, but I think Meguiars is better. If you want a really good finish you need to do the two bucket method and clay the car - this makes a big difference apparently (I haven't clayed my car, I just don't love it enough to be bothered).

One product that really does what it says is "Forever Black" - (£12 from Elite Car Care or ebay). This restored my car's faded trim and got rid of the marks left by wax, when other 'back to black' type products didn't last more than a few weeks.

Happy polishing.

Go Posh

Try www.seriousperformance.co.uk

Loads of stuff and reasonable too. I use Duragloss and Collinite marque d'elegance wax. Autoglym uses chalk and leaves white deposits everywhere and lots of static to attract dust. I understand the new Dodo Juice is excellent.

Hi

I picked up on Collinite Wax in another thread and ordered a 9 fl. oz. tin to trial. The Collinite Super Double Wax arrived today along with 3 microfibre cleaning/polishing cloths.

I have been a user of Mer for many years but Collinite Wax garrantees to be even better. I certainly hope so, it cost a small fortune. The advertisement for this wax boasts that it will last up to a year and give unrivalled protection under any conditions. We shall see. But I would be interested in hearing from any member who may have used this super wax.

I suppose it depends on what you want at the end of the day. I'm a bit fanatical when it come to cleaning an polishing. I generally wax with the marque d'elegance every three months but I use Duragloss Aquawax from Serious Performance as a spray when washed and and still wet I then dry with a microfibre towel. The water just falls off it and it is so easy to clean after bad weather.

The Norfolk store is a little more expensive than Alex at SP and he is very helpful and informative.

Try this site.................. http://www.web-cars.com/detail/ it will tell you how sad I really am!!! :p

Has anyone tried these 'waterless' cleaner/polishes?

I don't like the idea of just a squirt of cleaner and then the polish - I think of all the grit scoring the paintwork - or am I wrong?

I would NEVER use any of those waterless polishes. The car needs to be cleaned properly before applying the polish or it will not "bond" with the surface and you will have a very badly scratched car from all of the grime/ dirt/ oil/ bird-lime on your paintwork.
