July 2003 W209 CLK Convertible...so I think it's Comand 2.0 - single CD for the nav or audio CD, separate CD changer, no cassette.
Basically the CD drive won't read the (DX) Satnav disc CD. Throws up an error message. It did it once before, and I bought a new disc (from Comand Online) to replace the original 2003 one, which fixed it. However, the difference this time is that the drive won't read audio CDs either (although the multidisk changer in the glove box works fine. )
Short of major surgery, I can't see a way of getting to the read head to clean it, and I've never yet found a cleaning disc that works in a slot drive.
I now have a dilemma:
- Accept that the nav doesn't work, (it's so old as to be fairly useless anyway, but I hate things that don't work) or
- Remove & retain the original head unit and fit a modern Android one - like the Eresin one (https://www.erisin.co.uk/products/e...es-c-clk-g-class-w203-w209-viano-vito-4gb64gb ) which fits neatly in the hole and looks right and does all the modern clever things like Bluetooth streaming, DAB etc. Cheap-ish, and gets good reviews PROVIDED that neither Bose nor Harman Kardon amplifier optioms are fitted (when fitting all gets horribly complicated and beyond a simpleton like me....)
Question: How can i tell what the sound system is? The VIN decoder just gives "352 COMAND" - nothing else I can see about the sound system....

All clues and suggestions gratefully received!

Cheers
David

If you have Bose it will usually say so on the door speakers.
At that age it won't be HK.

Personally I'd eject the head unit.

Thank you for that - sadly, I'm coming to the same conclusion!
(Just FYI - it suddenly started reading the nav CD yesterday after about 1/2 an hour's driving. I can only guess it must have got condensation in the unit while it was sat in the garage since autumn - so that takes the urgency out of it. Stopped working again this morning, so it's certainly on the way out....)

you could try blowing some compressed air in the cd tray to see if that helps
