Merc 190 broke down today...help!!!

Got off the motorway today.....my Merc 190 (auto) seemed stuck in gear.

Without my foot on the acellerator it just quickly started going right up to 40 mph and beyond.

Servo on brakes gone so i had to stamp thru the floor to avoid hitting traffic.....pulled over put in in N or P and it just revs straight up to the redline.

any ideas greafully welcome as i know nothing about repairs and would lke half an idea before i ring the garage!

It must be the throttle return spring broken, under the air filter box you will see the end of the throttle cable near the air flow sensor plate the spring is around there
