Hi everyone,

I have a problem when I turn the fan heater on in my 2000 (W-reg) CDI A170 A-Class in that exhaust fumes are finding their way into the car.

I have been told that I may need to change the pollen/cabin filter but I don't know where it is located does anyone know?

I hope someone can help.

Many thanks in advance.

Do A-class cdi's suffer from injector seats leaking as well?
Just a thought.

I would guess that the injector seals are leaking and thats what you can smell!!!!!

Common fault im sorry to say!

Thanks SAM/UNIT.

Is it a big job and how much should it cost me roughly?

Many thanks

Mervin.

By the way....where is the pollen filter anyway?

Thanks again SAM/UNIT.

Do you know how much it should cost me roughly?

Also, after how many miles would you normally expect to see this problem?

Many thanks

Mervin.

By the way....where is the scuttle panel?!

I believe that my son's A170cdi has got similar problem as mentioned in this thread.
there is diesel leak causing small amount of white smoke to appear every few minutes around the cylinder head immediately under the manifold cover (black plastic covering the cylinder head).

I would love to hear from anybody who knows about this problem and how much it would cost to have it repaired as my son has just got his first job and he is virtually broke because of paying back the university student loan.

any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Injector seals

I have a similar problem with the 320cdi. The cause was visible, injector seals. In fact only one is gone but at 153k I know the others will go and asked the dealer [I use a main dealer still, his prices are reasonable] to replace them all, clean the injectors etc as well. Job is not done yet, but he said max 3 hours to do the full job including cleaning all the injectors. Problem with a 9 year old car is you can meet unknown things, he was allowing for that. seals are cheap. Estimate for the whole job was €300 plus VAT. Do it sooner than later and you might save your pollen filter.!

Hi, I had the same problem with an 2002 VW Passat 130Sport 18 months ago. Took it to my local indy and they sais that VW knew what is was but wouldnt tell them. I took it the VW Dealers and they took the car in, fixed the problem, valeted the car inside and out, gave it back to me and siad no bill. When I asked what was wrong the service guy just said 'look, its fixed and cleaned, bugger off' or words to that effect, too this day I dont know what was wrong with it.
