I have a 2002 c220,42,000 miles, sits & runs perfectly.BUT there is a clang/thud from the rear end when i go over uneven road or turn a sharp corner. Its been to two garages, lower rear arm bushes where replaced but that seemed an unecessary expense as 3 months later the clanging was back!AA have inspected it & can't find fault with springs/suspension or shocks! Yet we have this noise every mile or so! It's loud enough for people in the street to look!,though does not affect the handling?? Could it be the boot lid springs?? Can anyone help or suggest anything? Has anyone had a similar problem! hanks.

Sounds like a broken rear suspension spring to me. they break right at the bottom inside the mounting cup so its often difficult to see.
