Hi All

Ive only had my w203 51reg for a month and yesterday, to my horror, sum little jealous Ba####d scratched the whole of the drivers side from front to back. On top of that the tosser scratched the boot with deep marks which go straight through to the metal.

I recently came back from impoverished central africa and even the poor folks there would not do such a thing to the cars parked in the city centre. Chop off the hands of one of these toe rags, plaster it all over the news and lets see whether this sort of thing continues.

Any ideas on how to sort it out or repair costs. Ive seen some scratch repair kits on the net. anyone know anything bout this?

Nooooo! Really sorry to hear that buddy. I know I would be on the verge of murder if I found that happened to my car.
To be honest though, no repair kit is going to do it as well as a proper bodyshop is. Look around for some quotes, you might just find it's cheaper than you expect.
Incidently, what city are you in? If you're anywhere near Norwich I can point you to the man who did some work on my car.

The car can't hit back, just about sums them up completely.
As for repair I agree with Unleashed, sounds too bad for a scratch kit! Have a scout round round some of the smaller independent bodyshops for quotes - some very capable guys out there. How about insurance, do you have protected NCD for example?

Spaceman, I feel for you. I haven't had anything happen to my 95 C (touch wood) but I know that I would be fuming with anger. Take it to a good body shop mate. Unfortunately I haven't recommendations for you.

Let us know how you get on.

I have protected NCD but will my premium still rise next due to the fact that i have claimed? I mean the 70% NCD may still apply, but im assuming the cost before the discount is applied will increase.... therfore increasing the insurance.

I think that living in East London, i may have to put up with this sort of crap. Im trying to remain philosophical about the whole thing. Not to let it affect me too much......although thats hard.

Ive seen this product from the states that seems promising. Check the following link for those that are interested.

http://www.langka.com/index.cfm?page=howitworks.cfm

I think i'll give it a try. Will let u guys know how i get on.

Scratches

I wouldn't bother with this kit. If the scratch is in the lacquer a good bodyshop or mobile repair guy can clean the scratch, fill it with lacquer and mop it so it's not too noticeable. Shallow scratches even come out with wet & dry and a mop!

If the paint layer's gone you'll struggle to get a good repair as the scratch will always catch the light

If it's through to the metal repaint the panel & blend it in

Paint is one area where it's easy to make things much worse than they already are. Leave it to the experts. A lot of the mobile guys are very good - ask your local traders for a recommendation. Who do they use? Who does the main dealer use?

In the final analysis only a proper repaint will give undetectable results. If you live in London I wouldn't bother - just do enough to keep you happy and worry about resale when the time comes

Cheers Bolide.

Ive already ordered the Langka............ jus curious as to whether or not it really works. Only costs £30 so not too much of a gamble as long as i use it on a small area first.

I'll give an update when it arrives.

Like you said, living in London doesnt warrant a full respray so i'l have to manage with touch ups. This is probably the only downside to owning a Mercedes. But the ride and comfort more than compensate!

Vandal damage to your MB

Living in deepest Cornwall, you might think that we are strangers to this type of thing, but oh no. My parents had there, then almost new 190, keyed many years ago, and only last year, my 190 diesel, old but very bright, got keyed down 2 doors. What the sad tossers that do this sort of thing get out of it, God only knows!

Hi Spaceman,

Sorry to hear your news. I have kept various cars on the streets in west London over 17 years and before I bought a Merc had no problems bar the odd break in. Oddly enough my C43 has had 3 bonnet badges stolen and one rather poor attempt at keying. Kids round the corner. We all know the family....

I think it's luck of the draw. Mate of mine bought a beautiful '66 220se recently that had been kept on the street for 6 years in west London with no problem. Two weeks after he bought it and stuck it under a cover in his drive a crack head attacked it with a machete. Then took on his W124 estate. Result; great respray paid for by inusurance :)

Merc Scratched yesterday

You may not be aware that some Merc dealerships offer a special deal to repair "envy damage".
My local dealer ship some 5 years ago were offering a complete respray for £500 for my E250 when I bought it. Worth enquiring.
(My neighbour had minor boot lid damage on his Audi A4 and that cost over £600 to repair - told him to buy a Merc)

Hi - 1st post!

I bought Langka to use on my FTO unfortunately it doesnt seem to work as well as the adverts! Touched up the scratch and then rubbed down with langka .. looked the same! :-|

Im sure in the hands of an expert it will work wonders but for avg joe.. probably best to give it a miss.
