My old 1985 Mercedes 190 is still on the road and wheel arches have just started to rust!!! Do Mercedes galvanise the panels nowadays and how would I be eligible for the Mercedes 30 year body warranty? Desperately looking for a lead please help Gents!!!!!!! :-|

Do a forum search for E class and rust. It make grim reading I am afraid.

No the panels are not galvanised. Do you have a full MBSH? If so the rust should be covered under mobilolife, but even this is not neccesarily the end of the story as often the repairs are very shoddily carried out and rust re-appears.

Sorry to be negative, but its a sorry situation I am afraid.

Robbo is right. I personally wouldn't entertain any MB born after 1994. Apart from the rust problems there are all those ridiculous (IMO) electronic gizmos which forever seem to be failing and which dealers seem to know nothing about. Sat/nav is useless if you can't go anywhere, though I imagine the fancy radio would be company while waiting on the breakdown wagon! I understand that some now don't even have engine oil dipsticks or sump drain plugs! MB is at the bottom of the reliability charts these days I'm afraid. No earthly use to me!
(You can tell the kind of mood I'm in tonight, can't you!) :-(

rust problems

get mb to replace the rusty parts doors etc as the yanks insist on ,have a look at www.mercedesshop.com if repairs are not lasting as some members are saying .
even a less than full service history on a 99 reg should not stop a warranty claim surely? good luck with your claim.

I've not had a problem with the claims and the rust repaired has not returned.
Also, MB haven't argued and have approved the latest batch. I've moved the car on now, but it was age and mileage, not corrosion. The new one is an 04 so hopefully no corrosion, but I do wonder what electrical gremlins await!

Hi jberks

Is there a limit to the number of warranty claims one can make for bodywork repairs? My guess is, probably not. MB appear to be very accommodating wrt warranty claims at the present time.

Phil,
If there is, I never hit it. I believe they claim to only repair each area once, but if it's done right, then once should be enough and if it did return, you'd probably get them on that point anyway. I was very happy with the results on mine and nothing came back over the 3 years. I never had so much as an umm or err, it was just approved (admittedly after several months) and when I pointed out a new outbreak on dropping it off, they did that at the same time.
