Hi, i have a mercedes 300e 1989 G reg, and the rev limiter is cutting in at 4000rpm when it should be reaching around 6000 rpm. How can fix this problem, or can i just get rid of the rev limiter altogether? Richy.

When driving, or when stopped? If the latter, I think its supposed to do that.

Thanks for your reply. If i sit in the car and just rev it up, it doesnt go past 4000 rpm, even when im driving, it reaches 4000 rpm and starts coughing, which is the rev limiter cutting in. Is there a way i can fix this, or can i just get rid of the rev limiter altogether? Richy.

I can't help think this is something to do with the automatic gearbox. It stops you revving the car up not in gear and damaging the gearbox?
My dad's almost new S-type Jag wont go past 2500rpm in park or neautral but has full rev range in drive.
With your car this limiter may be stuck on - i'm not sure how to remove it - perhaps have a look in the gear selector to see if the inhibitor switch thing is disengaging?
Someone else on here will have a clearer idea of what they're going on about than I do!

a 300e will rev to the red/rev limiter, there isn't a lower limit for n or p as in the later cars, check your fuel pump relay is correct as it contains the rev limiter, might have a 4 cyl fitted.
