Mercedes 350SL Sport - ROAD NOISE!

I am delighted with my newly purchased 2014 SL350, but what is quite irritating is the apparent 'road noise' as I get to over 40mph which increases with speed. I had my local garage check it out in case it was something 'sinister' but he said it is just the noise being made by tyre contact with the road!!!
It hasn't long been serviced and new mot and mechanically superb with only 34000mls.
I would welcome any thoughts/recommendations.

Tyres and road surface. Some get noticeably noisier as the tread wears.
I have some on mine that are fine on tarmac but on concrete road surfaces they really sing out loud!
When buying tyres I always check wet grip and then noise ratings.

I can vouch for Continental SportContact 6 and 7 being well behaved and quiet.
