Mercedes 3L IL6 diesel date?

Hi,

Does anyone know when this engine started to appear in the E Class? Specifically in 350d or 400d format.

Never. They were 320CDI or 280CDI. 350CDI is probably always OM642 and 400CDI is 8 cyl (OM628 and later OM629)

Edit: and OM648 was broughti beginning of E-series W211, and discontinued mid of series around 2005-2006. OM613 was brough mid of W210 series.
In fact both OM613 and OM628 are 3,2L, OM642 is 3.0L...

Maybe at cross purposes here?

Gad Tunning posted recently that they had tuned an S class 350d that had the in-line 6 cylinder diesel engine. I can find that engine in the CLS from about 2018 in both 350d and 400d desinations.

Sinply asking if that engine is available in the E class and if so from what model year?

The OM656 IL6 came out in 2018 in the E350d and E400d
