Mercedes A Class Windscreen replacement advice

Hi all, I have only just bought a Mercedes A Class at the start of June and I am having some issues with the car dealership in regards to the windscreen.

I bought the car from Bristol Street Motors and the car was transported from a garage down south. When I picked the car up, the salesmen showed me a crack in the windscreen that had happened when the car was transported. They said that the transport company did not make a note of this and therefore the garage would have to pay for the windscreen.

I was told by the salesmen that they would replace the windscreen and it would look exactly the same. So I left the car at the garage and when I picked it up, I noticed the Amg signature wasn’t on the windscreen and that the window looked different. On the original windscreen there was a very slight tint to it and when I’ve said this to the dealership they don’t know what I’m talking about. Does anyone know what the slight tint would be called? They have replaced it with a plain simple windscreen and are refusing to replace it with the same one as the original windscreen.

If anyone has any advice on what I can do or say to the garage I’d appreciate it!! The garage are point blank refusing to get a windscreen that is the same as the original one and my argument is that the crack occurred before I even picked the car up so this isn’t my fault and it should look the way it was meant to look when I paid for it.

I believe u have the right to return the car for a refund. The fact that they changed it at all is an admission of liability. Getting it changed again may be a case of if or not they prefer to refund.
I no lawyer but that how I see it. Perhaps you consult trading standards for further advise.

If your car has things like automatic wipers, headlight assist, distronic, lane guidance then tell them it’s a safety item as the cameras will not be aligned and set up by STAR for the new screen replacement

Dont think? W168 has auto wiper. Had 2, both did not however there is plain screen and dark tint at top screen. I had a quote from Portsmouth based place for 140 plus vat 2 yr ago but car passed mot so never bothered

Yep right for a 168/169 but the new 176(?) Aclass has all those options available, I had to check the OP’s car information before I replied, it’s a 2021 car so certainly going to be all fancy

That’s great! Thank you for your advice!!

Make sure you put it all in writing to them (emails fine) that way should they decide to try getting out of anything you have evidence.
Also mention the sales of goods act, you can fully refund the car in the grounds that it’s not what you originally purchased, they have to be given the right to resolve correctly or give you a full refund

If was me n not an inss claim I wud happily do without auto wipers hav hands and its just one more thing don't need to think about.
But if bought as working I wud want em working.

You have a right to return within 29 days as long as you have it documented, I did this with my last c class from a main dealer and they paid out a partial refund and i had the car repaired under MB warranty. But make it very clear your are handing it back unless they put a genuine MB screen in
