Hi, I'm in a really sticky situation & need some advice.

My lovely car alarm has decided to go crazy.

Currently the key fob doesn't open the car or disabled the alarm, I can manually open the door with the key but then the alarm goes off. To make matters worse the override fob that is supposed to be used in this situation by sliding into a special jack in the glove box doesn't work either.

I have changed the batteries in the main key but this still doesn't make it function, I even tested the new batteries to check they were pushing the right voltage.

The strange thing is the car still drives from manually opening the door but with the alarm and hazard lights going off as I embarrassingly found out the other day when having to drive home like that.

I really don't know what steps I need to take to get my car back on the road.

I have spoken to Mercedes technical department & they are at a loss as they think putting the key in the ignition & starting the car should stop this, but doesn't.

Any help or ideas will be very greatfully received.

Check if the key is working by holding it in front of a digital camera

Do you not have a spare key ?

Hi Mal,

I don't have a spare key unfortunitely.
Can you explain the key infront of the digital camera trick?
The LED on the key is broken but there is a flicker of light coming from inside the broken LED when the button is pressed.

This is probably due to the battery voltage being too low. You should be able to reset the alarm with the remote after you have put the jump leads on.

Hi

I have the same problem but not so often. When I'm driving after opening my car with the central locking, the red light is still flashing but does eventually go off. Sometimes the alarm goes off when I'm driving the damn thing and have no idea hwta to do about it!

Thank you thank you !!!!!!!!

Thank you chickenlegs!

what a fantastic post.

saved me a fortune, i couldnt get my alarm to stop either, i ended up disconnecting the supply from the battery. various family members snooped around the cars manual to no avail...

THE OVERIDE SWITCH IS LOCATED IN THE GLOVE BOX.

OPEN THE GLOVE BOX AND ONE THE LEFT HAND SIDE THE IS A PLASTIC PLUG
INCONSPICUOUS AS IT IS ..... THIS IS THE OVERIDE SWITH.... STICK THE OVERRIDE FOB ( YES U SHOULD HAVE ONE!!! IF U DONT GOD HELP U) INTO THE SWITCH.. LEAVE FOR A FEW SECONDS,.... THEN AHHHH BLISSSS THE ALARM WILL STOP.... TAKE THE KEY OUT WAIT FEW SECONDS AND REINSERT THE ALARM WILL RESET . and ur life will return to normal ))) ......))
